On Thursday 16 October, Dream the Change hosted small group visits to the new Sensory Room in Elmstead Market, Colchester. Each session welcomed three families, one child and one parent or carer, to discover this inspiring and inclusive space.

Two children began exploring right away. One child, full of energy, found it harder to settle but soon relaxed and joined in. The interactive floor projector quickly became the heart of the session. It responded to every movement with colour and sound, offering sensory programs created to support learning and calm autistic children.

Once the children were immersed in play, parents took the chance to share their experiences of education. The conversation turned to sight reading, an approach that helps many neurodiverse children learn through visual recognition rather than phonics. Because of their strong visual or photographic memory, this method often makes reading more accessible and enjoyable.

The visit was more than play. It was a moment of connection and discovery. The children explored freely, while the parents exchanged knwoledge and hope.
