On October the 8th, Dream the Change joined a proud moment as Essex Police partnered with AFIUK for their first Black History Month celebration at Firstsite, Colchester
The event honoured Lawrence Walker, Chairman of Black History Month Colchester, whose legacy continues to inspire community action.

The day was filled with powerful voices and heartfelt stories. Marcus guided the event with energy and humor, assessing the police officer’s knowledge about cultural behaviours that young black people display. Community leaders shared their personal journeys and hopes for the future.

During the event, we met PC Dex Adams, Colchester Community Safety and Engagement Officer for Essex Police, who works across the Colchester district. We invited him to speak to our group about his personal experience supporting children with neurodiversity and his work with young people in policing.

After the talks, everyone gathered to share a delicious meal of curry and rice, a simple moment of connection that reflected the spirit of the day.
