Dream The Change CIC’s Co-founder has won another award

November 20, 2023

Congratulations to our Co-Founder and Director on gaining another business award.

Jemal Allabayeva was presented with the Colchester Legend Award at the Lawrence Walker Awards and Cancer Awareness Event at Firstsite, Colchester, recently.

Last year, Jemal, who co-founded Dream The Change CIC in 2019, won an Extraordinary Achievers Charity Award.

About 100 people attended the special memorial event to pay tribute to Lawrence, the late chairman of Black History Month Colchester.

He died recently after a short illness at the age of 69.

Jemal was nominated for the award by event organiser Rachel Walton, who is the founder of African Families in the UK (AFiUK) charity.

Rachel is also a Co-Founder and Board member of Dream The Change CIC.

On receiving the award, Jemal said: “Thank you very much for the nomination, I am honoured to get the award,  Lawrence was an amazing man and his contribution to development of the community is priceless! ! Thank you for all the support and collaboration.”

The aim of the Lawrence Walker Awards and Cancer Awareness Event was to raise awareness about cancer and its prevention.

At the event, there were various informative sessions, engaging activities, and interactive discussions that provided valuable insights into cancer prevention, early detection, and available support systems.

Mrs Walton is trying to raise £10,000 to pay for a remembrance statue in memory of Lawrence, along with a basketball hoop and backboard dedicated to him.

She described Lawrence as “a Colchester legend” and said, “He did so much that not everyone knew about, especially with young people - he saw their potential."

Well done on winning this award Jemal from everyone at Dream The Change CIC.
