DTC at Lexden Springs
There is something powerful about parents coming together to share experiences, learn from one another, and realise they do not have to navigate life’s challenges alone.
And we have witnesed this during the Parent Talks on Non Violent Resistance (NVR) for families of children with SEND at Lexden Springs School.
Learning to apply Non Violent Resistance (NVR)
Following a successful first cohort earlier this year, the second edition of the programme is now underway. Each week, parents and carers come together to learn practical NVR strategies, reflect on shared experiences, and strengthen relationships with their children.
The course is led by DTC’s founder Jemal Allabayeba, and Paulina Rangel, and organised by the school’s incredible team of Family Liaison Officers.
Supporting families of children with SEND
This SEND parenting support programme was created to help families:
• strengthen parent child relationships
• respond more calmly during challenging behaviour
• build parental confidence
• create supportive family routines
• improve emotional wellbeing for both parents and children
What parents learn through NVR
Across six interactive sessions, parents explore topics including:
• Non Violent Resistance (NVR) for children with SEND
• de-escalation strategies and emotional regulation
• parental presence and connection
• communication and listening skills
• reconciliation gestures instead of punishment
• support networks and self care for parents

Building stronger parent-child relationships
Most importantly, the programme is not about being a “perfect parent.”
Instead, it focuses on connection, understanding, and practical tools that families can use in everyday life.
Parents and carers leave with strategies to manage difficult moments more calmly. At the same time, they are reminded that their own wellbeing matters too.
Reducing Isolation for SEND Families
DTC and Lexdens Springs have created a space where families feel supported, listened to, and less alone. The conversations in the room have been powerful, open, and deeply real.
At Dream the Change CIC, we believe no parent of a child with SEND should feel isolated in their challenges.
Looking ahead to future NVR programmes
We are already looking forward to future editions of the programme and welcoming more families into this growing community. Get in touch to book your place for the next session of talks admin@dreamthechangecic.com
